EPISODE 18: Interview with DON OJA DUNAWAY
It was Bob Franke who first put Don's music into my hands, longer ago than we'd like to imagine. I still remember the corkscrew sensation that went down my back when I heard him the first time. Don was kind enough to send me some tapes of the stuff he was playing at the Milltop Tavern in St. Augustine. It is magnificent playinfg and singing, and some of it appears on this podcast. I don't get to St. Augustine as much as I used to, or as much as I'd like to, but one of my favorite things in the whole world is to sit and listen to an afternoon of Don playing his songs and songs he has collected at the Milltop, awash in a warm Florida breeze, with the Castillo in view. But for all the breezes and Castillos and beauty of The Oldest City, the Main Attraction for me will always be Don Oja Dunaway. He kind of tells his story in the pocast interview. Give a listen and let me know what you think!
